Pete Wells of The New York Times has been honored by the James Beard Media Awards this week, which recognize the best in food journalism, reports the Times.
Wells won the Craig Claiborne Distinguished Restaurant Review Award while the publication company also had two nominees in other categories.
“We’re delighted that the James Beard Foundation recognized Pete’s criticism, which is indeed distinguished and very much in keeping with the traditions of Craig Claiborne,” said Sam Sifton. “The pandemic has made him a reporter and essayist for the moment, but we all look forward to his return to the critic’s chair.”
Apart from Wells, Ligaya Mishan was recognized as a nominee in the Foodways category, and Eric Asimov was a nominee in the Wine, Spirits, and Other Beverages category.
