The Associated Press has appointed Julie Pace as executive editor and senior vice president.

Pace succeeds Sally Buzbee, who became executive editor of The Washington Post in June.

Recently, Pace was Washington bureau chief. She has been with AP for over 14 years, previously serving as chief White House correspondent and before that, as White House reporter. She has also worked as a multimedia reporter at The Tampa Tribune, WFLA-TV and TBO.com.

Gary Pruitt, AP president and CEO said:

“This is a very exciting time for the AP — we’re a 175-year-old news organization with a new CEO and a new executive editor. “Julie Pace has a vision for AP’s future that is in line with our long-standing values but also forward-thinking. She will do an excellent job.”
