NY Times welcomes three to SEO team

Jenna Fowler, Stephanie Castillo and Ryan Mayer

The following excerpt announcement was sent out by The New York Times deputy audience director Claudio Cabrera:

We’re excited to announce that Jenna Fowler will be joining the newsroom SEO team as California SEO editor.

Jenna, who joins us from The San Francisco Chronicle, will focus on better understanding and growing our California audience through search.

After getting her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Stanford, Jenna worked for Google Trends, where she helped orchestrate Google-wide efforts, including Google’s Year in Search project. During her time there, Jenna acted as a data journalist within Google, and her visualizations and work were published in The Washington Post, ProPublica and other outlets.

In addition to identifying opportunity areas for California, Jenna will be helping the rest of the search team with national coverage around major news events.

Stephanie Castillo is joining as an associate evergreen SEO editor, where she will report to and work closely with Maggie Adams to develop new and existing evergreen content.

Stephanie comes to us from Hearst, where she managed SEO strategy for Oprah Daily, Prevention and Women’s Health. Outside of SEO, she was an active member of Hearst’s Latinx ERG and led the group’s efforts on Instagram.

Prior to Hearst, Stephanie managed SEO for Time, Fortune and Money magazines. Stephanie has also worked as a health editor and reporter for publications like Medical Daily, Newsweek and Prevention.

We’re delighted to announce that Ryan Mayer will be joining the newsroom SEO team as Associate SEO editor for News. Ryan comes to us from the CBS Local where he was a digital producer working as part of the national content and operations team helping implement strategy, plan for upcoming news events and cover a wide range of tentpole events across the sports landscape.

Ryan comes from a journalism background as a 2013 graduate of Hofstra University with a degree in broadcast journalism. Prior to his time with CBS, he worked in local sports radio, serving as the sports director for an ESPN affiliate in Michigan.

Please join us in welcoming our new colleagues to The Times.
