NY Times taps Mashal as South Asia bureau chief

Mujib Mashal

The New York Times has promoted Mujib Mashal to the post of South Asia bureau chief. Previously, he was a South Asia correspondent.

Mashal has also served as a reporter and senior correspondent at The Times. He previously had a short 3-month stint at The Times in 2010 as a local reporter, Kabul bureau, after which he joined Al Jazeera English as a journalist.

He has also worked freelance, having contributed to The Atlantic, Harper’s, Time, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Al Jazeera English/America, Newseek-The Daily Beast, Foreign Policy and others.
