NY Times makes two new hires

The following excerpt announcement was sent out by The New York Times, Opinion politics editor Ezekiel Kweku:

Laura Reston will join as senior editor.

Laura comes to Times Opinion from The New Republic. There, Laura edited some of the magazine’s most ambitious political opinion and analysis. Over the last four years, she has commissioned and edited cover packages, recruited new voices, and led a team of staff writers.

Her first task as deputy editor was to overhaul the magazine’s front of the book section. Since then, she has brought in features and shorter opinion pieces on everything. Before she became deputy editor, she was managing editor of the magazine, overseeing the production process and writing frequently for the print magazine herself. Born and raised in DC, Laura went to Harvard, where she studied American politics and policy. She began her career in journalism working for the Charleston Gazette in West Virginia.

Sarah Wildman will be joining as staff editor and writer.

Sarah has long been a regular contributor to The New York Times and other publications, but she started working in Times Opinion in November of 2020. She is now joining the politics team full time.

Before joining The Times, she was an editor for NBC News; she was co-producer, and host, of Foreign Policy’s First Person podcast where she also served as a deputy editor. She was previously on staff at Vox, where she was the first global identities and borders writer, and the New Republic. She’s also been a contributing writer for the Advocate magazine, and the American Prospect.

Sarah has received numerous grants and competitive fellowships around the world.

Please join me in welcoming them.
