The New York Times journalist Manny Fernandez, who became one of the great chroniclers of Texas, is moving to a new role as Los Angeles bureau chief soon.
Also, effective immediately, Fernandez will be a dual correspondent and editor that will keep part of his journalistic brain in the Lone Star State.
In addition to reporting from California, he will continue guiding The Times’ coverage of Texas.
Fernandez has been the Houston bureau chief since 2011, covering Texas and Oklahoma for The Times. He joined the company as a metro reporter in 2005, covering the Bronx and housing.
Prior to that, Fernandez was a reporter for The Washington Post and The San Francisco Chronicle.
He has also worked at MSN, MSN South Africa, MSN India, MSN U.K., MSN Canada, The Independent, CNBC, SFGate, Boston.com, Chicago Tribune and more.
Fernandez graduated from California State University with a Bachelor’s degree in journalism.
