John Newsom

John Newsom, a veteran News & Record journalist has left to go freelance. He has been with the paper for over 25 years and has served as a higher education reporter, editor and editorial writer.

During his time at the News & Record, he also won Education Writers Association and N.C. Press Association awards.

He has also covered cops, schools, city government and business for Pasadena Citizen and was an editorial assistant at Dell Publishing Co.

Newsom has a bachelor’s degree in history and English from College of William and Mary and a master’s degree in journalism from Columbia University – Graduate School of Journalism.
