Korie Dean is joining the News & Observer in Durham as a service journalism reporter. She joins from the Virginian-Pilot, where she was a Dow Jones News Fund data journalism intern.
She has worked as a reporter at the UNC-Chapel Hill Media Hub and has interned at the North Carolina News Collaborative. She was also a staff writer at The Durham VOICE, a hyperlocal community newspaper focused on Northeast Central Durham, published by students at the UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media.
She has also reporter for Our Chatham, a digital community news publication for Chatham County, NC, published by the UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media.
Dean has a B.A. in media and journalism from UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media, North Carolina Central University.
