New roles for two NY Times staff members

The New York Times has appointed David Halbfinger as politics editor and Manny Fernandez as deputy politics editor.

Most recently, Halbfinger was Jerusalem bureau chief.

He has been with the Times for over 24 years, holding various roles, including reporter, Bronx reporter, Long Island bureau chief, Trenton bureau chief, columnist, Atlanta bureau chief, Hollywood correspondent, and metro political correspondent.

He was also an investigative reporter, deputy metro editor, presidential campaign editor and deputy national editor.

He has also reported for The Boston Globe Media, New York Newsday and Philadelphia Business Journal.

Halbfinger graduated from Yale University.

Currently, Fernandez is Los Angeles bureau chief at The Times. Fernandez joined The Times as a metro reporter in 2005. Before that, he has worked at The San Francisco Chronicle and The Washington Post.
