New beat for NY Times’ Wilson

The New York Times has tapped Caryn Wilson as weekend audience editor. Previously, she worked at the politics desk which she joined in 2019 as audience engagement editor.

In her new role, Wilson will ensure that the best audience thinking extends into the weekend and will be overseeing Suzie Sainwood, the weekend social editor.

Prior to the politics desk, Wilson was the deputy editor of the Snapchat Discover team and worked with products on early designs. She came to The Times as an intern on the Foreign-National Copy Desk in 2011, then joined as a copy editor in 2012 and worked on Metro, Business Day and Foreign-National.

In 2017, she became a senior staff editor responsible for the production, promotion and presentation of breaking news at night.

Additionally, she has also interned at Thomson Reuters and The Tallahassee Democrat and was editor-in-chief of The FAMUAN, the student-produced newspaper. She was also selected as a FAMU representative by Investigative Reporters and Editors.

She has also served as a news editor at The FAMUAN.

Wilson is a B.S. in newspaper journalism from Florida A&M University.
