Rick Hirsch, managing editor at The Miami Herald, will be retiring at the end of the year.
Hirsch had been with the Herald for over 41 years.
During his time at the Herald, he has served as Broward managing editor, senior editor for multimedia and new projects, as a reporter, editor and manager leading the push into digital news and social media, and launching and overseeing public radio partnership.
He was also a board member of campus Communications System, Inc., the nonprofit that oversees the Independent Florida Alligator, the student paper at the University of Florida. He was also president of the Florida Society of Newspaper Editors.
Hirsch earned his bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Florida.
