Paloma Esquivel has joined the Los Angeles Times metro desk as an education investigative reporter.
The move comes as part of the Times’ expansion of education coverage.
There, she was part of two teams, one in 2011 and one in 2016 that won Pulitzer Prizes.
Before the times, she has worked freelance for The Nation online, ColorLines, AlterNet, WireTap magazine, La Prensa and Hispanic News (Riverside, Calif.).
She has also worked in Spanish-language radio and was an occasional substitute teacher.
Esquivel has also served as a weekend cops reporter at City News Service.
Esquivel holds a master’s degree in magazine, newspaper and online journalism from Syracuse University.
