Joyce Barnathan, president of the International Center for Journalists of more than 15 years, will be retiring. Sharon Moshavi will be succeeding Barnathan.
Barnathan has also served as assistant managing editor and then as executive editor of BusinessWeek-McGraw-Hill. She was also Moscow bureau chief at Newsweek.
Barnathan graduated from Washington University in St. Louis.
Currently, Moshavi is ICFJ’s senior vice president of new initiatives.
Her new role begins September 7.
Moshavi joined ICFJ as its first digital media director and then became senior vice president, focusing on new project design, partner cultivation and innovation.
She has also directed ICFJ’s first global research project and spearheaded the creation of a research arm aimed at setting the agenda for 21st-century journalism.
Previously, she has worked at the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. She was also a Tokyo correspondent at Boston Globe and KQED, and a Jerusalem correspondent at Newsday. She also served as an India correspondent at Business Week.
She has also reported for Forbes.
Moshavi graduated from Columbia University, New York.
