Garcia departs Dallas Morning News for Des Moines Register

Nic Garcia is joining the politics team at the Des Moines Register.

His new role starts July 19.

Currently, Garcia is a senior writer at the Dallas Morning News, covering Dallas County government and other political stories in North Texas, a post he will be leaving on July 16.

Prior to the News, Garcia was a political reporter at The Denver Post.

Before that, he was at Chalkbeat for more than 4 years, holding various roles, including reporter, senior reporter/interim operations chief, deputy bureau chief and engagement editor.

He has served as senior managing editor, then as an associate publisher and as executive editor at Out Front.

Garcia was also a board member of Society of Professional Journalism – Colorado Pro Chapter. Garcia is a B.A. in journalism from Metropolitan State College of Denver.
