Fearn steps down as comment editor of The Independent

Hannah Fearn

After almost six years, Hannah Fearn is stepping down as comment editor of The Independent.

From October, after her maternity leave, she will continue as a columnist and contributing writer but will also be writing for other outlets while working on a few other projects.

Fearn has been with The Independent for almost seven years and previously held the post of social affairs reporter/assistant news editor/I news editor.

Before that, she was with The Guardian for more than four years, joining as editor, Guardian housing and local government networks. She then served as commissioning editor, Guardian Big Energy Debate, and Guardian Sustainable Business.

She then became a freelance writer for Society Guardian and then served as a contributing writer, Guardian Housing.

She has also worked freelance for The Independent, the Daily Telegraph, New Statesman, The Spectator, Inside Housing and others. Fearn was also a writer, Times Higher Education at TSL Education. She was also deputy editor at Charity Times.

Fearn is a B.A. in English and philosophy from the University of Manchester and a M.A. in newspaper journalism from the University of Central Lancashire.
