Fans of Contra Krugman podcast set sail to make a point

There are all kinds of reasons for going on a cruise but Business Insider’s Mark Matousek picked up on a rather unusual one.

He described an event where over 100 people boarded a ship in the name of deconstructing New York Times economist and Nobel Prize-winning economist Paul Krugman’s arguments.

New York Times columnist and economist Paul Krugman.

The cruisegoers are fans of the podcast Contra Krugman, which rebuts Krugman’s positions. Matousek picked up on a story by Bloomberg’s Lizzie O’Leary who reported in detail on the unusual event.

The cruise took place on Celebrity Cruises’ Celebrity Solstice ship and reportedly featured seminars, debates, and games centered around libertarianism. The games included libertarian-themed versions of Pictionary and Family Feud, according to Bloomberg’s report which was  replete with details of the humorous repartee on board the ship – all aimed at deriding the famed economist and writer.

Krugman has been a columnist for The New York Times since 1999 and won the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences in 2008 for his work on international trade and economic geography.

It’s obvious that the celebrated writer, who considers himself a modern liberal, has churned up a lot of discussion and debate, both on and off the ship.
