The Dallas Morning News is partnering with Black-owned publication, Texas Metro News with the aim to boost coverage of Dallas’ communities of color, especially in southern Dallas.

Under the partnership, Texas Metro News will publish articles from The Dallas Morning News at zero charge while Dallas Morning News will pay a consulting fee for Metro News journalists to help with sourcing, story idea generation and more.

The expansion comes as Dallas Morning News expands community-based coverage through its website and local newsletters.

Texas Monthly News started in 2012 with the printed newspaper having a weekly circulation of 5,000, and staff reporting daily in newsletters and podcasts online.

Cheryl Smith, editor and publisher of Texas Metro News says, “If you want good, solid journalism, collaboration is key. We’re trying to shed light and show the Black experience, but we’re also saying you don’t have to be Black to appreciate it.”

Staff members from both companies are already engaged in meetings on content and other opportunities for collaboration.
