Cailin Brown has joined The Daily Gazette in upstate New York as its new managing editor.
Her new role begins on Sept. 28.
Brown is a writing and editing professional bringing more than 20 years of experience practicing and teaching print and online journalism to the newsroom.
Gazette editor Miles Reed selected Brown for the position, which has been vacant since he was promoted to editor in 2018. He said:
“We’re delighted to be able to add a journalist of Cailin’s caliber and experience to our team,” Reed said. “She’ll add a dimension of expertise and passion for the news that will enhance all facets of our operation. We can’t wait for her to start.”
Recently, Brown was an associate professor of journalism at The College of Saint Rose. She has also worked as an assistant professor and department chair at the college.
She has also worked as a journalist at New York State Bar Association and was a columnist at the Syracuse Post Standard. Brown has also served as an enterprise and investigative reporter at Times Union and was a staff reporter at Knickerbocker News.
Additionally, she has also held the posts of business news reporter and columnist, and beat reporter and columnist at Capital District Business Review and The Record, respectively.
Brown is a B.A. in English from Le Moyne College and an M.A. in English from University at Albany, SUNY. She also has a PhD in English from University at Albany, SUNY.
