Amelia Robinson has joined The Columbus Dispatch as an opinion and community engagement editor. There, she will focus on community conversations. She says:

“When you hear other people out, it can change your mind. A lot of times, we go into situations with our own point of view. When you step away from yourself and listen to others, and really think about what they are saying, it can make a difference — especially about race and equity. Those conversations can bring up points that cause people to say, ‘I never thought of it from that perspective.”

Previously, Robinson was with Dayton Daily News, where she spent more than 21 years. She worked as a columnist, blogger and online food, nightlife, entertainment and life reporter. She was then promoted to the post of journalist and then served as a columnist/reporter, before becoming the publication’s community impact editor.

She was also digital all-media journalist for Dayton.com, DaytonDailyNews.com, WHIO.com and other COX Media Group Ohio websites. She was also the host of “What Had Happen Was” podcast, which is consistently one of Cox Media Group’s most downloaded podcasts across all Cox markets.

She was also a contributor to WHIO Radio, appearing Fridays on “Miami Valley’s Morning News” and Sunday on “Miami Valley Happenings with Jason Michaels.”

Additionally, she has also served as a reporter and columnist at Mansfield News Journal.

Robinson earned her Bachelor’s degree in Journalism from Ohio University.
