McClatchy has promoted two Charlotte Observer executives — publisher Rodney Mahone and editor Sherry Chisenhall — reports the publication.

The move comes as part of a broader restructuring at the company, said CEO Craig Forman.

Mahone has been named president of the company’s Georgia markets. In his new role, he will play a broader role in advertising, including overseeing the company’s Texas-based call center and small-and medium-sized business efforts.

“I’ve loved my time in Charlotte and getting to know this wonderful city and the team at The Observer,” Mahone said. “It’s been gratifying to work with a team so passionate about serving the community. I’m also looking forward to helping this team and all of our colleagues across McClatchy build a sustainable revenue future that keeps us strong for our readers and local businesses.”

Chisenhall has been appointed president of the Observer and the Rock Hill Herald, and will also hold her current post of editor. Previously, she was an editor at The Wichita Eagle.

“I’m looking forward to working with our Observer and Herald teams in this expanded role,” Chisenhall added. “I’m deeply proud of the work they’ve done under extraordinary circumstances these past few months. Our team is steadfastly committed to serving their community, and my role is to make that possible any way I can.”
