Canadian Press hires Joaquin to cover immigration

Arvin Joaquin

Arvin Joaquin will be joining The Canadian Press to cover immigration, working with the team at the Ottawa bureau.

His new role begins Jun. 1.

Joaquin joins from OMNI Television where he is currently working as a multimedia journalist. He has also worked as an associate editor at Xtra Magazine.

Additionally, his work has also appeared in Global News, Huffington Post, CityNews, CTV News, CBC News, and Thought Catalog, among others.

He has also interned at 980 CKNW, CTV News, The Vancouver Courier and the Canadian Union of Public Employees. He was also a social media manager at Quantumrun.com.

Joaquin was named as one of the finalists for Best Emerging Writer at the 2020 National Magazine Awards and has also won silver in the Best Investigative Article/Series category at the 2021 Canadian Online Publishing Awards.

Joaquin holds a B.A. in communication and sociology from Simon Fraser University, and a master’s in journalism from Carleton University.
