The Baltimore Sun Media is planning on moving the printing of its newspapers from Baltimore to a printing plant in Wilmington, Delaware, by the end of January.

Under the proposal, The News Journal, a Wilmington paper owned by Gannett, would print and insert The Baltimore Sun, The Capital of Annapolis, the Carroll County Times, and other affiliated publications.

The shift is likely to result in the loss of 100 full-time employees, mostly press and insertion machine operators, with approximately 90 pressmen and mailers represented by Teamsters Local 355, with the union’s business agent saying that it would bargain the terms of the shutdown.

“This preliminary agreement would reduce expenses related to the print operation and help continue the investment in our digital growth,” said Trif Alatzas, Baltimore Sun Media’s publisher and editor-in-chief.
