A promotion and addition on the NY Times flex desk

The New York Times has promoted Valencia Prashad to the post of deputy editor for training and development, flex desk.

In her new role, Prashad will “help reimagine how editor feedback and training works on the flex desk while overseeing the work of editors who come to embed with our team from around the newsroom.”

Prashad joined the flex desk two years ago, and since then has mentored three Dow Jones News Fund multiplatform interns. She has also worked on several desks at The Times, including metro, culture, book review, SWAT team and express.

Lillie Dremeaux will be joining the flex desk as an assistant editor helping with the training efforts, with a special focus on mentoring members of the incoming Editing Residency class.

Dremeaux joined The Times as a web producer and then became a home page producer on the overnight shift. She then became deputy editor, overseeing the night news operation.

A year later, she was promoted to the post of digital deputy for the London newsroom, overseeing the homepage, training the staff in London, Paris and the overseas bureaus on digital tools, helping develop audience in Britain, and working with reporters on digital story forms.

She then returned to the news desk, supervising the home page and alerts until midmorning in America, and building a staff of home page producers in Europe and Asia.

Prior to The Times, she was a copy editor at The Anchorage Daily News.

Her new role begins August 16.
