Yahoo Finance hires Smith as DC reporter

Jessica Smith

Jessica Smith has been hired by Yahoo Finance as a Washington-based reporter.

Smith comes from Nexstar Media Group’s Washington bureau, where she reported for 100+ local TV stations since April 2017. She primarily focused on consumer issues, trade and taxes.

Smith spent three years reporting at WISH-TV in Indianapolis and started her career at Fox Business Network as a production assistant for “Countdown to the Closing Bell.”

Smith is a graduate of the Missouri School of Journalism.

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
