Yahoo Finance has hired Quartz Europe news editor Lianna Brinded as head of its United Kingdom operations and Alanna Petroff as its senior economics reporter.
Brinded will lead Yahoo Finance’s strategy in the United Kingdom.
Prior to Quartz, she was a senior editor at Business Insider, where she helped establish its presence in the United Kingdom and oversaw its breaking news operation. She previously held positions at CNBC and Dow Jones.
Petroff had been at CNNMoney, where she was a senior business reporter and producer.
“2018 is already providing to be a pivotal year for Yahoo Finance as we expand our newsroom globally and make true on our commitment to build Yahoo Finance into a recognized brand for consumers who are passionate about finance,” said Joanna Lambert, general manager of finance and tech at Oath, Yahoo Finance’s parent company.
Yahoo Finance, which is the No. 1 business and finance site in the United States, has plans to launch an all-day video service by the end of the year.
Petroff will focus on the impact Brexit will have on trade, wages, the housing market, jobs and inflation. At CNNMoney, she covered Brexit, global trade, the energy markets and aviation.
Prior to CNNMoney, she covered personal finance and investment topics for Morningstar.co.uk and worked as a reporter and host a radio stations in Canada.
Both will be based in London. Brinded starts on Aug. 6 and Petroff starts in September. Both will report to Nicholas Petche, editor in chief of Yahoo UK.
