WYSO hires Welter as its new environmental reporter

WYSO in partnership with Report for America has hired Chris Welter as its new environmental reporter.

Welter completed his radio training program at WYSO’s Eichelberger Center for Community Voices in 2017 before being appointed to his new post last week. He has also done conservation work and policy research on land-use issues in southwest Ohio as a Miller Fellow with the Tecumseh Land Trust.

Additionally, Welter edited The Antioch Record and later served as chair of the college paper’s advisory board.

Welter is a graduate of Antioch College with a degree in environmental journalism and French language and culture.

Report for America is continually working to fill in the gaps created as local journalists lose jobs. This year, the organization put 225 new journalists into newsrooms across the country.

WYSO news director Jason Saul talked with Steve Waldman, co-founder of Report for America, to discover more about the program.

The talk can be read/listened to here.
