WSJ’s Zeisler talks about how reporters have the right technology

Alyssa Zeisler

Alyssa Zeisler, research and development chief and senior product manager for newsroom tools at The Wall Street Journal, was interviewed by the Women In newsletter about her job.

Here is an excerpt:

WSJ: How would you describe what you do each day?

AZ: My role is about future-proofing the newsroom and making sure our reporters and editors have the right technology and tools in three, five and 10 years down the line. On any given day, I’m thinking about the future of news and working with the program manager and engineers on my team to specify the work we’ll do in the next three to six months.

WSJ: What was the last big win you experienced?

AZ: If you asked anyone else on my team, it would be the work we did to improve and support the live coverage page on election night (one of the most read articles of 2020). But I think it’s actually how the culture of the combined team we’ve been creating has taken hold. Looking into next year we have clear projects, goals and processes in place which resulted from our coming together in the past six months. If you use Tuckman’s stages of team development, we’re about to enter the “performing” stage, which I’m really excited about.
