WSJ’s Winkler moves to health tech beat

Rolfe Winkler

Wall Street Journal reporter Rolfe Winkler is now covering health technology.

His new beat comes after a six-month assignment on the newspaper’s health team, where he wrote about topics such as digital contact tracing, vaccine trials, and Palantir’s software to distribute the vaccine. His previous primary focus was venture capital and startups.

Winkler has had a number of scoops on this beat in the past that drove his interest. One was Elon Musk’s Neuralink while another was Outcome Health, about which he led a multi-month investigation, discovered it was misleading customers. Investors sued and the government has already secured three felony guilty pleas and indicted three other executives.

Winkler has been at the Journal since July 2010, first working on the “Heard on the Street” column.

He previously was a columnist for Reuters and also worked as an analyst for a hedge fund.
