WSJ’s Whalen to join Washington Post biz news desk

Jeanne Whalen

Washington Post national economy and business editor David Cho and deputy business editor Zach Goldfarb sent out the following announcement on Friday:

We are thrilled to announce Jeanne Whalen is joining The Washington Post as global business reporter.

Jeanne, who was the Deputy Bureau Chief of the Health and Science team at the Wall Street Journal, is filling a new role for The Post. She will be traveling widely to report on profound changes in the world economy, as the U.S. upends trade relationships and retreats from decades of leadership on global issues.

Jeanne is ideally suited for this position. She spent 17 years reporting overseas, including nearly 10 years in the Journal’s London bureau, covering the pharmaceutical and health-care industries. She speaks Russian and spent five years in the Journal’s Moscow bureau, covering politics, the economy and the oil-and-gas industry. She was part of a Journal team covering drug pricing that was a 2016 Pulitzer Prize finalist. She has also written revelatory stories about the opioid crisis, including China’s role in distributing fentanyl to the Americas.

Jeanne also has written for The Financial Times, the Moscow Times and Advertising Age.  She graduated from Cornell University.

Please welcome Jeanne when she joins us on July 9.
