Wall Street Journal reporter Chester Dawson has joined the Detroit bureau to cover the auto supply chain and Fiat Chrysler.

Dawson spent close to four years in Calgary concentrating on the energy industry and other topics across western Canada.

He’s far from new to the auto beat, having joined The Journal in New York and then working two years covering the Japanese auto industry and defense policy in Tokyo.

Prior to the Journal, Dawson did a stint on Wall Street inside the world of high finance after working as international financial editor at BusinessWeek. He also reported for Bloomberg, the Associated Press and the Far Eastern Economic Review.

He’s authored two books, including “Lexus – The Relentless Pursuit.”

Dawson graduated with an M.A. in East Asian studies from Harvard University after getting his B.A. in history at Ohio University, during which he spent his junior year abroad at Sophia University in Tokyo.
