WSJ’s Gottfried moving to private equity/restructuring beat

Miriam Gottfried, who has been working on The Wall Street Journal’s “Heard on the Street” team, is moving to a new beat.

Gottfried is joining the deals team as its private equity and restructuring reporter.

For the “Heard on the Street” column, Gottfried wrote analysis and commentary about investing in media, telecommunications and retail companies.

Before that, she spent three years at Barron’s magazine, writing weekly features that made a case for, or against, investment in a stock or sector. She also wrote a daily morning feature called “Barron’s Take” assessing the investment opportunities arising from a stock that is moving.

Gottfried has also written for SmartMoney, Forbes, Crain’s Chicago Business and The Oregonian.

She graduated from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism in 2009 with a concentration in business and economics.

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
