Rick Carew, formerly The Wall Street Journal’s Asia finance and deals editor based in Hong Kong, has joined Sard Verbinnen & Co as a managing director in its new Hong Kong office.

Previously he served as the Journal’s M&A and private equity reporter for the region. He wrote extensively on China’s role in the global financial system from Beijing and Hong Kong.

He is a graduate of Columbia Business School’s Value Investing Program in New York. He did his undergraduate studies at the University of Virginia, where he graduated with high honors and degrees in Economics and Chinese Language & Literature.

“As a former business editor covering Asia’s most significant corporate events, I have always been impressed by the caliber of SVC’s team and recognized the need for the sophisticated services they provide in Asia,” said Carew in a statement. “There is a growing demand in the region for communications advisors who are global in their approach and capabilities, but also possess a deep local understanding of the markets that clients are navigating.”
