Anthony Galloway, global head of video at The Wall Street Journal, sent out the following announcement on Friday:

All,

I’m writing to share some exciting news: The Wall Street Journal plans to launch a daily podcast early next year, in partnership with Gimlet, a leading producer of audio content.

Our new podcast, which is planned to launch in spring, will bring the The Journal’s strongest reporting to our ambitious audience each day, sharing deep insights, context, analysis and storytelling from The Journal’s well-sourced reporters and editors in a format that is best suited for audio.

A distinct companion to our successful news podcast, What’s News, this new show will go beyond the headlines and dive deep into our core coverage areas, highlighting our unparalleled reporting and access to the world’s top newsmakers, while offering clarity, direction and memorable journalism in a complex and fast-moving business environment.

This podcast will be produced in New York by a team from The Journal and Gimlet. It is the result of extensive conversations which were initiated by Mike Miller almost a year ago. After several test episodes, which several of you participated in, and extensive business discussions led by Drew Stoneman, we have forged a strong partnership with Gimlet that will bring our editorial strengths together with their podcasting expertise.

In the coming days, we will be posting roles for an executive producer and reporter/host on wsj.jobs. Once the podcast starts to take shape, we’ll also be looking for editorial contributions from reporters in all of our global newsrooms.

On behalf of WSJ and our partners at Gimlet, we are looking forward to working with you on this new daily podcast.

Anthony
