Dear All,
Outreach training at the Journal is expanding this fall with an exciting, innovative partnership we’ve designed with CUNY’s Lehman College in the Bronx. In collaboration with the college’s Computer Science department, the WSJ & Lehman Journo-Tech Program will provide training opportunities that:
- Develop and equip a diverse pool of talented individuals with sound technological skills for today’s growing newsroom roles that support the intersection of technology and journalism.
- Expose Lehman’s diverse, largely Hispanic population of students to the potential possibilities within emergent technologies that allow new forms of producing and disseminating premiere journalism.
- Provide Lehman students with Journal newsroom mentors to enhance the fellows’ internship and collegiate experiences.
Five fellows will spend 10 weeks embedded in our newsroom on the Digital Experiences and R&D teams, focusing on the development of new AI-powered tools and news experiences. In addition to semester project work, two of the fellows will continue as summer interns. Participants will be supported by Journal newsroom training sessions and will be paired with mentors during the duration of the program. Our joint press release is attached.Special thanks to Dion Bailey, Erin Riglin and Till Daldrup, who will help to evaluate and manage successful outcomes of this training. The knowledge and insights we gained from The Wall Street Journal-Morgan State University Business Journalism Exchange Program (which resumes in the fall) were key in helping us shape this collaboration with Lehman College students!
If you have questions about Journal newsroom outreach training partnerships, including seeking ways you can get involved, don’t hesitate to reach out to AME Brent Jones, Training & Outreach. Strategic newsroom partnership training, critically important to our mission of bringing greater awareness and understanding to issues relating to the global economy, finance and business sectors, can’t happen without your support. Thanks in advance for your continued participation as trainers, speakers and mentors!
