The Wall Street Journal is looking for a Newsroom Talent Editor to lead recruitment, hiring, career support and diversity initiatives in assigned areas of the newsroom.
You will be charged with finding, courting and hiring exceptional journalists who represent the diversity of experiences in the world in which we live and the audiences we serve, while also guiding existing staff with the career development and support they need to flourish and grow in their careers at the Journal. You will create a strategic partnership with Journal leaders in your assigned areas to build talent pipelines of best-in-class journalists and other professionals.
You will work closely with the Assistant Managing Editor for Talent, other members of the newsroom talent team and other senior editors on the crucial work of ensuring that the WSJ newsroom is staffed with exceptional and productive journalists who are thriving in their roles and seeking to advance their careers.
You will also work, in collaboration with the Culture, Training and Outreach team and other newsroom leaders, to promote a diverse, inclusive and welcoming newsroom. We are looking for candidates who are committed to the Journal and our mission and who can serve as an ambassador for our values.

You will:
- Develop relationships with editors across our global newsroom to understand the staffing needs of the organization
- Work in partnership with hiring managers and senior editors to help build and maintain a strong pipeline of talent
- Help identify, assess and interview potential job candidates
- Help set and uphold standard processes for recruitment, hiring and onboarding for our journalists
- Manage and publicize job postings
- Ensure that a diverse slate of candidates representing a wide range of experiences and backgrounds is considered for each open position
- Create and support career-development plans for current Journal employees
- Assist in the selection and mentoring of interns
- Represent the Journal at career fairs, journalism conferences and recruiting events
You have:

- Deep understanding of the brand values and mission of The Wall Street Journal
- Passion for the journalism created in this newsroom
- Excellent presentation skills and ability to represent the best of the Journal’s core attributes at speaking engagements, recruiting events and internal training
- Critical thinking and diplomatic problem-solving skills
- Ability to juggle high-volume recruitment and multiple projects.
- At least two years of experience in journalism and/or recruiting/HR
While you may start this job remotely, you will be based in our New York newsroom. You will report to the Assistant Managing Editor, Talent.
