WSJ reporter Purnell switches to new beat

Newley Purnell, a tech and business reporter at The Wall Street Journal, has begun a new beat in Hong Kong.

According to his tweet, Purnell will be covering tech across Asia, with an emphasis on U.S. “titans’ battles” in global markets.

Prior to joining the Journal, Purnell was with Bloomberg BNA working as a special correspondent covering business and economic issues in Southeast Asia. Before that, he served as a stringer at ABC News where he covered breaking news, mostly in Thailand.

He was also the Southeast Asia correspondent for The Chronicle of Higher Education.

Purnell is a B.A. in English from Emory University and a M.A. in business and economics journalism from Columbia University.
