WSJ reporter Launder leaves for PR job

The Wall Street Journal’s William Launder, whose reporting focused largely on the newspaper and magazine industries, has left the paper for a public relations gig, reports Joe Pompeo of Capital New York.

Pompeo writes, “Martin Peers, the Journal‘s media and marketing bureau chief, confirmed that Launder’s last day was Friday. Peers didn’t have any news to share on a permanent replacement, but he said Jeffrey Trachtenberg, who covers book publishing, would be picking up the slack for the time being.

“Earlier this year, the Journal‘s media and marketing group was in expansion mode, scouting for new journalists on the advertising and digital media beats.

“They recently launched C.M.O. Today, a blog ‘helping marketing executives discern who and what matters,” overseen by advertising editor Suzanne Vranica with help from Adweek vet Mike Shields.”

Launder previously worked at American Banker. He had been at The Journal since 2008 and is a Georgetown and Columbia graduate.

  • Not surprised to see another newswires person leave. It's common knowledge the company has a target on anyone left over from the wires.
