WSJ reporter El-Ghobashy moving to Egypt

Tamer El-Ghobashy, a Wall Street Journal reporter in New York, is moving to Cairo soon to become a Middle East correspondent for the paper.

El-Ghobashy tells Talking Biz News that he will be based in Cairo and will start on or about Oct. 15. “I will be covering the political transition in Egypt with our current correspondent there, the excellent Matt Bradley,” he said in an email.

El-Ghobashy has been a criminal justice reporter for The Journal for the past three years. Before that, he was a national news editor for NBC News, creating content for the national and international news sections of NBC’s local sites in 10 major markets.

Prior to NBC, El-Ghobashy worked for the New York Daily News for more than eight years, leading its on-site coverage of major news events including the attacks and repercussions of 9/11, the arrival and aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, the war in southern Lebanon in the summer of 2006, the controversial killing of Sean Bell, the Duke University lacrosse team alleged rape case, and the wild fires that devastated swaths of San Diego.

El-Ghobashy is a New York University graduate.
