The following note was sent to Wall Street Journal staff:

Dear colleagues,

Last week many of you received power banks in the WSJ 125 gift bags.

This afternoon, there was an isolated incident in which one of these devices appears to have combusted. No one was hurt, but your safety is our primary concern.

We are asking that you do not use the power banks. If your power bank is currently plugged in, please unplug it. Starting immediately, we will be instituting an internal recall.

Company representatives will staff drop boxes in each region to collect all power banks. More details to come shortly.

If you have any questions or immediate concerns, or have experienced similar issues with the power bank, please contact the Human Resources hotline in New York at 212.416.4744. Apologies for the inconvenience, but to repeat–your safety is our number one concern.
