WSJ names WIsnefski its AME for talent; Christie-Davie as AME for biz management

Stephen Wisnefski

Wall Street Journal editor in chief Matt Murray and managing editor Karen Pensiero sent out the following announcement on Wednesday:

A note from Matt Murray and Karen M. Pensiero:

Colleagues,

We’re delighted to announce two important appointments to the Managing Editor’s Office.

Steve Wisnefski will become assistant managing editor for talent, and Nirosha Christie-David, who has been Dow Jones’s director of Financial Planning & Analysis for the WSJ franchise, will become assistant managing editor for business management.

Steve will oversee hiring and career development across the newsroom. An experienced manager and leader, he is superbly qualified to help all of us take our staffing to the next level, expanding our range of talents, our diversity and career paths at a time of rapid change in our industry. The newsroom talent team of Megan Douglass, Keiko Morris, Aisha al-Muslim and a soon-to-be-posted new position will report to Steve. He will also work closely with our colleagues on the Dow Jones People Team.

Steve has served for the past five years as editor for professional news, overseeing the groups that produce WSJ Pro and Dow Jones Newswires. Prior to that he ran the Journal’s real-time news desk. Steve joined Dow Jones in 1997 as a reporter for Dow Jones Newswires in São Paulo, Brazil. Among other Newswires positions, he served as Latin America editor, energy and commodities editor, Chicago/Detroit bureau chief and senior editor for the Americas. Steve, who was born in Chile, is co-lead of Mi Gente@DJ, the Dow Jones

Nirosha Christie-David

community of Latino/Hispanic employees. He was raised in Wisconsin and graduated from Northwestern University, and now lives in Cranford, N.J., with his wife, Patricia, and their two teenage sons, Max and Leo. In his spare time, Steve runs long distances, plays piano and cheers on Wisconsin sports teams.

With Steve’s move, Glenn Hall has happily agreed to be our interim editor of professional news, reporting to Matt, ensuring that the team moves forward without missing a beat.

Nirosha will be a fabulous addition to the newsroom, leading our budgeting and financial initiatives, including the creation and shepherding of investment asks; managing our capital spending and expenses; and overseeing compensation planning, tracking and equity. She has been a valued and trusted Dow Jones finance business partner since early this year, and she will continue to work closely with our colleagues in Finance as well as the Dow Jones People team.  Assistant Director of Finance Mark Neumann and his team, Jiyanne Castelly and Michelle Yang, will report up to Nirosha.

Nirosha joined Dow Jones in 2013 and has supported the Subscriptions, WSJ Pro, Conferences, Print Operations and Customer Service teams as a finance business partner. Prior to that, she worked at News Corp Australia and Macquarie Group. Nirosha, who was born and raised in Sydney, Australia, now lives in Brooklyn and was a frequent visitor of the Newseum in Washington, leaving her devastated when it closed in December 2019.

Both Steve and Nirosha will report to Karen, joining the invaluable AME for Operations Kate Ortega in the MEO’s work. Steve begins his role this week, while Nirosha joins the newsroom on Monday.

Please join us in congratulating Steve and Nirosha, who will soon be working closely with all of you.
