WSJ names Sam Walker its deputy enterprise editor

Matthew Rose, the enterprise editor at The Wall Street Journal, sent out the following announcement on Monday:

I’m thrilled to announce that Sam Walker, one of the most creative and ambitious editors at The Wall Street Journal, is joining the Enterprise team as deputy.

Sam came to the Journal in 1998 to cover sports for the new Weekend Journal, back before the paper had photographs. He became a columnist in 2002 and sports editor in 2009. He founded the Journal’s irrepressible and much-imitated daily sports report, which has produced standout journalism on Lance Armstrong, Under Armour and the recent Paris terror attack. Let’s also not forget the puppet shows and the seven-foot ice sculpture of Roger Goodell.

In between, he wrote one book, “Fantasyland” (2006), and is finishing another, to his extreme torment, about the secrets of great teams, to be published next year by Random House. He has a costly and regrettable obsession with classic car projects.

Mike Allen, a veteran of the Journal’s enterprise editing desk, will continue being deeply involved in many of our most ambitious projects. Emma Moody continues to shepherd extras to page one and her role there will grow as the newsroom restructuring continues.

Please join me in welcoming Sam to the team!
