Wall Street Journal real-time editor Steve Wisnefski sent out the following staff promotion on Tuesday:
I am very pleased to announce that Mark Long has been promoted to night editor on the real-time news desk in New York. Mark, a veteran of the WSJ and Dow Jones Newswires, will serve as the point person for breaking news on the hub late into the U.S. evening. Working closely with WSJ night editor Wade Lambert, as well as subject editors, bureau chiefs, visual teams and social media, Mark will steer our coverage for digital platforms. Mark will also coordinate the global real-time handoff with editors in Hong Kong.
Mark, who’s currently a night editor on the world news desk, brings a wealth of real-time experience to the role. Mark joined Dow Jones in 1999 as a news assistant on the WSJ’s monitor desk. He moved to London in 2001 as a reporter for DJN, covering metals, energy and corporate news, before turning to editing and returning to the U.S. in 2005. He held various senior editing roles for wires, including a stint on the resources team during which he was part of a team that won a Clabby Award for coverage of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. Mark, a native of Louisville who has worked as a bookseller, a waiter and a vendor of souvenirs at a Grand Canyon shop, was as an editor for Personal Journal for two years before joining the world desk.
