Andrew Dowell, editor of Asia Pacific for The Wall Street Journal, sent out the following announcement on Monday morning:
I’m very pleased to announce that Serena Ng will be our new Finance Editor for Asia. Serena, an extremely accomplished financial journalist, will oversee a team responsible for covering banking, M&A and markets from Japan to India. She got her start on the beat in 2006 with a job covering credit markets for the Journal. There she unearthed some of the complex trading strategies that caused Wall Street banks and insurers to implode during the financial crisis. She also tracked the bailout of insurance giant AIG and its turbulent path to exiting government ownership.
Serena began her career at the Journal with an internship in 2005. In the years since she has covered billionaire Warren Buffett and has led investigations into consumer products giant Procter & Gamble and Jessica Alba’s Honest Company. She is currently a senior reporter on the Journal’s financial enterprise team, a job in which she examined new conflicts of interest in Wall Street research and profiled the hedge fund manager behind a big bet against America’s shopping malls. She has two Gerald Loeb awards.
A native of Singapore, Serena was previously a reporter at the Business Times, a national financial daily, and holds journalism degrees from Nanyang Technological University in Singapore and New York University. She lives in Queens with her husband and two sons, and will relocate to Hong Kong later this summer.
Please join me in welcoming Serena to her new role.
