WSJ names new economics news editor

Wall Street Journal managing editor Robert Thomson sent out the following announcement Monday afternoon:

I am delighted to announce the promotion of the sedulous but not credulous Brenda Cronin to Economics News Editor of The Wall Street Journal.

In her new role, as part of the US News Desk, Brenda will work closely with David Wessel and Tim Aeppel as the desk’s point person for economics. She will handle breaking economics news and develop broader themes with reporters in New York, Washington and around the world.

Brenda has brought precision and passion to the World New Desk. She also has been a National News Editor for wsj.com, Washington News Editor for The Wall Street Journal, and helped oversee the Economics bureau during David Wessel’s book leave. Before joining the Journal in 2001, she worked for Knight Ridder in Washington, where she established the Knight Ridder and Tribune Co. Business News Service, and was executive producer of the KRT broadcast news wire. She graduated with honors from Georgetown University and is known for her distinctive flair for fiction writing (though certainly not at the Journal).

Brenda takes up her new duties next month and will report to Sam Enriquez. Please join me in congratulating her on an important promotion.
