Juan Montes is the new central bank reporter in the Mexico City bureau, arriving from Madrid bureau where he was an energy reporter for Dow Jones Newswires. Juan will be covering the Bank of Mexico as it appears set to start cutting interest rates, after more than two years of a steady monetary policy with expectations of eventual rate increases. Juan has a BA in Economics and Political Science from Madrid’s Universidad Complutense and a masters in journalism from the EL PAÍS/UAM School of Journalism.
Prior to working at Dow Jones he was a reporter for Spanish economic daily Cinco Dias, and worked for a spell at Guatemalan newspaper Nuestro Diario. (2008). His hobbies include playing chess and squash, and he’s one of the many (so he says) Madrileños who support Barcelona. Please join us in welcoming Juan and wish him every success in his new duties.
