WSJ names new banking editor

Wall Street Journal money and investing editor Francesco Guerrera sent out the following staff announcement:

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Brad Reagan as the Wall Street Journal’s new banking editor. In his new role Brad will oversee our coverage of commercial and investment banks across all digital, real-time and print platforms.

It is an exciting time to take over one of the most core beats for the WSJ. The hangover from the financial crisis, a lackluster economy and disruptive technological innovations are causing profound changes in the industry’s practices, regulations and business models. The WSJ’s banking team is ideally placed to chronicle these developments and Brad is the ideal person to lead it, ably aided by Aaron Lucchetti, who has done a tremendous job as deputy banking editor.

A Texas native, last century Brad interned in the Journal’s Atlanta bureau and later worked as a reporter for the paper’s late-great Texas Journal, based in Houston. He returned to the Journal in 2011 on the markets desk, and was named investing editor in 2013. As investing editor, Brad has masterminded many memorable stories, including our fantastic coverage of the problems at Pimco.

During his stint in the wilderness, he co-wrote three books, worked as a staff writer for Smart Money magazine and spent two years in Abu Dhabi as an editor at an English-language newspaper there. He graduated from Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas and received a master degree in journalism from the University of Missouri-Columbia. He and his wife, who live in Brooklyn, are expecting their first child in December. Brad is a clear-eyed editor but an even clearer-eyed spot up shooter from behind the three-point arc.

Please join us in congratulating Brad in this new endeavor.
