TALKING BIZ NEWS EXCLUSIVE

Wall Street Journal managing editor Robert Thomson sent the following e-mail to the paper’s staff on Wednesday:

“I’m delighted to announce that Grainne McCarthy will be leading an integrated team to make our markets coverage more insightful, as well as faster-paced — or in the phraseology of our age, real-time. As Chief Global Markets Editor for WSJ.com and Dow Jones Newswires, Grainne will work closely with Journal and wires markets editors and reporters to improve the substance, and the aesthetics, of financial markets news coverage across geographies and asset classes. Classy real-time coverage of the markets is absolutely essential for our collective success and that coverage will delivered on many different devices around the globe.

“Based in New York, Grainne will report jointly to Rebecca Blumenstein, Managing Editor, WSJ.com, and Gabriella Stern, Senior Editor, Global News Coverage, for Dow Jones Newswires. She will work closely with editors and reporters from the Money & Investing section, and with our international reporting teams.

“Grainne, who joined Dow Jones in 1996, has been DJN’s Managing Editor for U.S. energy news since 2005. Previous Newswires assignments included serving as Assistant Managing Editor for money news in the U.S., and Jakarta bureau chief. Grainne has a Master’s degree in journalism from Dublin City University and a Bachelor of Arts degree in European Studies from the University of Limerick. She completed a one-year Knight-Bagehot fellowship at Columbia University in 2001.”
