WSJ names Horvath its world editor

Wall Street Journal managing editor Gerard Baker sent out the following staff promotion on Tuesday:

At the start of 2013 we embarked on an ambitious plan to complete the integration of the newsrooms of Dow Jones Newswires and the Wall Street Journal.  The aim of the initial phase was to create an editorial leadership that would direct the convergence of the various teams of reporters and editors across the two organizations.  Today I am delighted to announce the completion of that senior team with the appointment of Adam Horvath as World Editor.

As we bolster our real-time and overseas editing capability, Adam will oversee international coverage of political, economic and general news as well as U.S. foreign policy, and be a lead advocate for dynamic,  must-read presentation of international news online and in the U.S. paper. He will work closely with editors in London and Hong Kong and all our overseas bureaux, and have direct oversight of our bureaux in Latin America and Canada, which will report to him.

Adam is well-qualified for these missions after launching the International Desk in the fall of 2008 in time for the global financial crisis, serving as deputy and then chief. That followed two years as editor on the Page One staff and a stint in Europe as Brussels bureau chief.  He began at the Journal editing the Politics and Policy pages on the national desk in 2000, and he coordinated coverage in those pages of the September 11 attacks and the resulting U.S.-led wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and on international terror organizations.

Please join me in congratulating Adam on his new role.
