WSJ names Hall editor of professional news

Glenn Hall

Wall Street Journal editor in chief Matt Murray sent out the following announcement:

Dear All:

I’m delighted to share the news that Glenn Hall is named Editor, Professional News, with a remit overseeing our portfolio of professional news content including Dow Jones Newswires and WSJ Pro. With his extensive background as a news leader, as well as his strategic acumen and competitive fire, Glenn is well-suited to take on this important senior role.

Glenn has  served as the editor of Dow Jones Newswires for the past four years, during which time he helped reshape the global operation by expanding the Barcelona hub concept to create hubs for the Americas and the Asia-Pacific regions. He also initiated a reimagining of the Newswires business by establishing a growing research team and leading the development of proprietary data using artificial intelligence to score companies on environmental, social and governance issues.

During his time on the Professional News team, Glenn has collaborated with Steve Wisnefski, Kimberly Johnson and Nick Elliott on strategies for WSJ Pro, and recently assisted in launching the new Sustainable Business vertical. Prior to his work on the wires, he served as U.S. News Editor for The Wall Street Journal for almost four years. He joined Dow Jones in 2013 as editor in chief of MarketWatch.

Glenn’s journalism career spans many different roles across different media brands. Before coming to Dow Jones, he led a startup digital news site called TheBlaze as managing editor and previously served as editor in chief and senior vice president of TheStreet, a financial news site with a host of subscription verticals. Glenn also led the digital transformation of The Orange County Register as its chief innovation officer and held various leadership positions at Bloomberg News in Europe and the U.S. He started his news career at The Journal-Gazette in Fort Wayne, Indiana, where he became an investigative reporter focusing on business issues. He holds a Master’s Degree in Project Management from Boston University and Bachelor’s Degrees in Journalism and Political Science from The Ohio State University.

As the son of a U.S. Air Force officer, Glenn lived all over the world before settling down in New York City with his wife and dog in 2008, making this the place he has now lived the longest in his life. He will report to me, and continue to work closely with colleagues across Dow Jones. Please join me in congratulating Glenn.

Matt
