Wall Street Journal managing editor Gerry Baker sent out the following staff promotion on Wednesday:
I’m delighted to announce that Jennifer Forsyth is appointed Deputy Editor, Investigations, a move that will enhance our investigative and enterprise reporting in the evolving era of digital journalism.
Jenn will help run every aspect of the group, focusing on coordinating with bureaux world-wide and seizing on opportunities to improve the way we respond to big breaking news stories with deeper, revelatory but timely reporting.
Jenn is ideally suited for this role. She has worked as our U.S. Editor since September 2011. She has elevated our U.S. coverage, strengthening the Journal’s position as a must-read on national affairs. She has improved our organizational strength and enabled us to better cover breaking news stories with distinction, depth, speed and accuracy, traits which served our readers well during a run of news stories such as shootings in Newton, Conn., the Boston Marathon bombing and the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy.
Jenn has established a peerless renown for spotting enterprise and investigative angles on big news stories and instituted a newsroom newsletter on reporting and sourcing tips.
Previously, she served as bureau chief in Dallas, where she spearheaded the Journal’s investigation of the Deepwater Horizon oil rig disaster and oversaw our reporting of the early stages of the US energy boom. She also served as law bureau chief and worked as an editor and reporter in the real estate bureau. Before joining the Journal, she was a member of the investigative team at the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Jenn is on the membership committee of Investigative Reporters & Editors.
She will report to Mike Siconolfi, our Investigations Editor.
Please join me in congratulating Jenn on her new role.
